Maintaining Your Heating and Air Conditioning Units

Hello. My name is Max. My wife and I have five children who all live at with us in our large two-story house. My wife and two of our kids suffer from severe allergies which means keeping our home as dust-free as possible. I have learned that it’s crucial to keep our heating and air conditioning units properly maintained at all times. We have a fantastic HVAC company that comes out two times a year to perform routine maintenance on our system. They have taught me what I can do on a monthly basis in order to not only help with my family’s health but also keep our system running efficiently. I would like to share some of the tips I’ve been given. I hope you find this to be useful!

Keeping A Baby Warm When Your Heater Goes Out

Kristin Pierce

A heater going out at home can be a bad deal for all. Those who are older can dress themselves inside of warm clothing and can use electric blankets to make the temperature a little bit easier. Those who may have it hardest when a heater goes out are babies. Toddlers and babies have a harder time regulating body temperature, which means that rooms must be properly warm during the winter time to keep them safe. If you have a baby and your heating goes out, here is what you can do to help with the temperature.

Swaddle the baby at all times

Swaddling helps to keep a baby secure. Swaddling also helps to make sure that the child is warm when there is no heating. Wrap your baby from the neck down to keep them secure and warm. Be sure that the blanket that you swaddle with is a good material, such as cotton. Dress the child in clean clothing and a diaper before being swaddled so that they will be fine for several hours in the same wrapped position. In order to keep their head warm, you should put a small knit cap on the child.

Put your toddlers in a snowsuit

When you have a toddler, swaddling is a much more difficult thing to do. Toddlers like having the use of their limbs and will tend to crawl, walk, and run around the home at all times. Instead of swaddling, you can put your toddler inside of a snowsuit while the residential heating is being worked on. Snowsuits are made to keep the wind chill from penetrating the outfit, so the child will remain warm inside the home. Underneath the snowsuit, dress your toddler in very light clothing. Snowsuits can get hot when running around in them all day and you do not want them to overheat.

Keep the electronics on

Electronics are known to give off heat. All types of electronics such as televisions, sound systems, computers, and more tend to give off some slight heat. This can be annoying during the summer months, but while your heater is being fixed this can be helpful. Keep your babies and toddlers inside of a room and allow them to watch television or play with their electronics. By keeping them bundled up and inside of a room with electronics, the temperature will be warmer and more comfortable for them.
